T20 World Cup 2026: With India win over England in semi Final by 7 runs, India becomes first team to qualify for four men’s T20 World Cup finals

With India win on Thursday against England, India also became the third team after Pakistan (2007 and 2009) and Sri Lanka (2012 and 2014) to make it to successive T20 World Cup finals. After India beat England by seven runs in the semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, India became the first team to make it to four men’s T20 World Cup finals.

With thrilling seven-run victory over England, India secured a position in final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday, thanks to an amazing batting performance from Sanju Samson and in the closing stages a composed bowling effort from Jasprit Bumrah. The defending champions posted 253 for seven which was the highest total in the history of tournament ever recorded in a knockout match – before restricting England to 246 for seven in their innings. On Sunday, now in the final India will face New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

Sanju Samson played a significant innings of 89 off just 42 balls, hitting eight fours and seven sixes. The right-hander batsman survived an early scare when he was on 15 and dropped by Harry Brook, but he capitalized on the opportunity, attacking the bowlers relentlessly, along with Jofra Archer, against whom he had struggled previously. He with powerful pull shots and aggressive strokeplay countered pace of Archer and ensuring India maintained a brisk scoring rate throughout the innings.

Samson also shared a critical 97-run partnership off 45 balls with Ishan Kishan, who added a brisk 39 from 19 balls. Later, Shivam Dube added 43 off 25 deliveries, while Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya chipped in with fast cameos to support India accelerate sharply in the final overs. During last five overs alone added 76 runs, pushing India to an imposing total.

From the England side, young batter Jacob Bethell scored 105 off just 48 balls, despite early setbacks keeping England firmly in the contest. However, disciplined spell of Bumrah during the death overs proved decisive. His final over conceded only six runs, which finally ending the hopes of England before run-out of Bethell sealed the outcome.
