Top moments of second ODI between India and New Zealand

In the second ODI of the three-match series between India and New Zealand in Rajkot on 14 January, New Zealand defeated India by six wickets. India scored 284/7 after batting first, in which KL Rahul’s unbeaten 112 and captain Shubman Gill’s 56 played important role. In response,Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand scored 131* and New Zealand chased down the target in 47.3 overs.

In the Rajkot ODI, there were several records and milestones achieved. Some of those records are given below.

1) Virat Kohli broke record of Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar record of most runs against New Zealand in ODIs. As soon as he scored his first run in his 23-run knock, he got to the mark. With this record, he became the Indian with most runs against New Zealand in ODIs. Sachin had scored 1750 runs while Virat Kohli now has 1773 runs.

2) Right-hander KL Rahul equalled his highest ODI score

KL Rahul had scored unbeaten 112 runs off 92 balls against New Zealand. Coincidentally, Back in 2020 he had scored 112 against New Zealand as well.

3) Unique record of KL Rahul

KL Rahul with his 112*, became only the sixth Indian to score an ODI century against New Zealand. Rahul had hit an ODI century in both countries India and New Zealand against Kiwis. He joins an elite list that features Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.

4) Rohit Sharma finishes 7000 ODI runs in Asia

Despite scoring only 24 runs in Rajkot, the former Indian captain Rohit Sharma completed 7000 runs in Asia and becoming the seventh player to do so. Before Rohit, from India and Sri Lanka only 3 players had achieved this.

5) In India, New Zealand register biggest ODI runs chase

In India with this victory, New Zealand registered their highest ODI run-chase. Their previous-highest chase was 283 in the opening match of the 2023 World Cup in Ahmedabad against England.
