Finally Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the 50 kg category at Paris Olympics final has been rejected by the ad-hoc division of the court of Arbitration for sport (CAS), the Indian Olympic Association told yesterday( 14 August 2024).

Vinesh, who was disqualified during the second weigh-in on the morning of her gold-medal match had also requested to be awarded a joint silver medal. This is major setback to Vinesh Phogat.

The CAS released a declaration to provide its judgement which explain ” The application field by Vinesh Phogat on August 7 has been dismissed.”

IOA President PT Usha communicated in a statement ” Shock and disappointment at the decision of the Sole Arbitrator at the CAS to dismiss wrestler Vinesh Phogat application against the United World Wrestler Vinesh Phogat application against the United World Wrestling(UWW) and the International Olympic to dismiss wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s application against the United World Wrestling(UWW) and the International Olympic Committee(IOC).”

IOA is exploring further legal options reports said.

During the weigh-in last week, Vinesh Phogat was found to be 100 grams over the limit.She has set to fight against Sarah Ann Hidebrandt of the United states for the gold medal.

Congress leader and ex-Chairman MC Dadri Ajit Phogat said ” She (Vinesh Phogat) made us proud and become a role model for everyone.She will come tomorrow to Dadri(In Haryana) and we will welcome her like she has won the Gold medal,”.

IOA advocate Vidhuspat Singhania told ” It is disappointing. Vinesh did a lot of hard work and we were hopeful even when the timeline was extended. However,it’s disappointing that the appeal has been dismissed by the court,”

Boxer Vijender Singh said,”This is very sad and unfortunate thing for us…We could have won gold in the Olympics if she had made it through the finals.We are standing with Vinesh and will always support her…This is a sad news and I am not happy with this news…”
