Strip of Rohit Sharma of taking part in every T20 world Cup ends as he becomes an ambassador for the 2026 edition of T20 World Cup. Rohit Sharma admits adjusting to viewing the T20 World Cup tournament on TV is a new experience, though he remains an active ODI player. Sharma reflected on the trouble of winning the team’s recent triumphs and global trophies. Only two players have participated in all nine editions of T20 World Cup, and Rohit Sharma stands as the single Indian in that elite group. But with the 2026 T20 World Cup in next February coming to India and in last June his retirement from T20Is, the former skipper admitted that he will experience the next edition from home for the first time, acknowledging that the thought of “watching the World Cup on television” is still something he is learning to accept.

Even with stepping away from T20Is more than a year ago and retiring from Test in May, Rohit told the shift to life as a retired player remains an ongoing adjustment.

ICC chairman Jay Shah announced on Tuesday that Rohit Sharma will be official ambassador for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Winning captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup called the honour special, nothing that players are hardly ever appointed ICC ambassadors even still active in their playing days. He conveyed hope that the upcoming T20 World Cup would create the same excitement with a new group of Indian players.

Sharma also reflected on his three ICC titles, including two as skipper, and recollect how difficult it was to end long drought of India between 2014 and 2023.

Watching a World Cup as a watcher, Sharma said, will be unusual after featuring in every one of them so far. “I’m still getting used to sitting at home and watching it on TV,” he observed, adding that he has started to enjoy this different perspective.

Sharma made it clear, however, that he has not retired from all formats and will rejoin the squad later this week in Ranchi for three-match home ODI series of India against South Africa. “I’ll be meeting the boys soon. I am still playing,” he told with a smile.
