Top-seeded Indian shuttler Nitesh Kumar secure a gold medal in men’s single SL3 category after a commanding straight-game win in final over Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell at the Paris Paralympics yesterday.

Nitesh Kumar wins gold medals: Charkhi Dadri, Haryana’s a para badminton player Nitesh Kumar asserted India’s second gold medal at Paris Paralympics on Monday. He beated Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell in the final of men’s singles SL3 category.

The 29-year-old Nitesh Kumar, who overcome permanent leg damage from a 2009 accident, showed his power with a (result) win over Bethell in the final.

The IIT mandi graduate thus ensured that India back with a medal from SL3 category, after three years when Pramod Bhagat clinched the gold medal when para badminton made its debut in Tokyo.

About Nitesh’s Journey

Nitesh Kumar’s first love was football.However, a dreadful accident in Vizag in 2009 Shattered his aspirations, leaving him housebound for months and with his leg damage permanently. Regardless of this setback, Nitesh’s love for sports remained unwavering.

Nitesh seized the offer to represent Haryana at Para Nationals in Faridabad in year 2016.In that Para Nationals he earned bronze medal, which shows his immense potential. The following year, he continued his victory securing silver in singles and bronze in doubles at the national championships.

At the National championship in 2020 he defeated Tokyo Paralympic medalists Manoj and Pramod to secure the gold medal. His performance in domestic tournament cemented his position as one of India’s leading para-badminton athletes.

Along with national tournaments, Nitesh has also be excellent on the international stage, winning medals in various tournaments.Now he has captured one on his Paralympic debut.
