Head-to-head record of India vs South Africa: Full stats in Tests, record in India – which team dominates overall?

In the two-match Test series between India and South Africa are set to clash starting from Friday, 14th November at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Due to South Africa are the reigning World Test Championship title holders, this series holds notable weight, whereas India aims to leverage their powerful home record. The second and final final Test will be played from 22 November in Guwahati. Since South Africa are the current World Test Championship (WTC) title holders, this series carries extra weight, while after sweeping the West Indies 2-0 earlier this year, India are focusing to construct on their dominant home form.

For South Africa cricket team, after a tight 1-1 draw against Pakistan, the challenge is to continue their fighting form. Historically, contests between India and South Africa have been closely fought. Out of the 44 Tests played between these two cricketing giants, the proteas hold a minor lead with 18 wins, while India have claimed win 16 times. In the 44 Tests, 10 matches have ended in draws.

However, on the Indian soil, the numbers tells a different story. Out of 19 Tests played in India between India and South Africa, the hosts have won 11, South Africa have won five matches whereas three matches have been drawn – a testament to formidable record of India at home.
